This full day tour from Leith includes Stirling Castle, one of Scotland's most magnificent castles, and Linlithgow Palace, birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots.
After meeting your private guide at the pier, you depart for Stirling, with a short stop to see the 19th century Forth Rail Bridge, a cantilever engineering marvel carrying the North British Railway a mile and a half across the Firth of Forth at 150 feet above high tide.
At Stirling Castle, built on a rocky outcrop with commanding views for miles around, you explore its long military history from the Wars of Scottish Independence in the 1300s, as well as its role as a royal palace under James V.
Following the castle visit, you have free time for lunch in a typical Scottish pub.
Later in the afternoon you visit Linlithgow Palace, birthplace of Mary Stuart, who became Queen of Scots. You'll see the Great Hall with its huge fireplace, and the elaborately carved fountain, a wedding gift from James V to his wife in 1538 and the oldest fountain in Britain, still standing in the palace courtyard.
Following this stop you return to the pier.
