About Copenhagen Cruise Port

Copenhagen has three docking areas, and the one your ship uses decides how you get to the city.

How the Port Is Laid Out

  • Oceankaj (Ocean Quay) in Nordhavn is the main terminal for large ships and turnaround calls.
  • Langelinie is closer to the historic center and is used by smaller and mid-size ships. It is near the Little Mermaid.
  • Nordre Toldbod is next to Langelinie and is the closest berth to the center, mainly for smaller ships.
  • Ships dock alongside the quay, so no tendering is required. Your cruise line confirms your terminal.

Distance to the City

  • Oceankaj is about 4 to 5 miles (7 to 8km) from the center of Copenhagen. It is a commercial port area, and walking to the city is not practical.
  • From Langelinie it is roughly 10 minutes by car to Nyhavn, or a waterfront walk of about 30 to 40 minutes past the Little Mermaid.
  • From Nordre Toldbod it is roughly a 10 minute walk to Amalienborg Palace and 15 minutes to Nyhavn.

Getting to the Center From Oceankaj

  • A taxi takes roughly 20 to 30 minutes and is the fastest public option.
  • City bus 25 or 164 runs to Orientkaj metro station, where metro line M4 continues to the center. Allow roughly 30 to 40 minutes in total. Buy your ticket before you board.
  • Some cruise lines offer paid shuttles, but availability varies by sailing.

Other Transportation Options in Copenhagen

A private transfer is not the only way to get between the port and the city. Here is what the bus and metro, a taxi, and a sightseeing bus look like. None of these are services we operate or book.

Bus and Metro

  • From Oceankaj, take city bus 25 or 164 to Orientkaj metro station, then metro line M4 toward the center. The trip takes roughly 30 to 40 minutes.
  • From Langelinie, bus 27 reaches Osterport station in about 10 minutes.
  • A zone ticket covers the trip and must be bought before you board. Plan on carrying your own luggage.

Taxi

  • From Oceankaj a taxi to the center takes roughly 20 to 30 minutes, and from Langelinie roughly 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Ask for the total price before you get in, or confirm the driver will use the meter.

Hop-On Hop-Off Bus

  • Sightseeing buses are usually available near the cruise terminals when ships are in port, with a set route and commentary.
  • Check the schedule at the terminal, since the route and timing follow the operator and not your ship.

A private transfer costs more than these options, but it is the only one that meets you at the terminal on a schedule built around your sailing, drives straight to your Copenhagen hotel or Copenhagen Airport, and is backed by our back-to-ship guarantee.

About Copenhagen and the Surrounding Area

Copenhagen is a compact, walkable capital with canals, palaces and harbor views, so even a short port call leaves time for the main sights.

Highlights Many Cruise Passengers Visit

  • Nyhavn, the colorful canal harbor.
  • The Little Mermaid statue on the Langelinie waterfront.
  • Amalienborg Palace and the changing of the guard.
  • Tivoli Gardens.
  • Rosenborg Castle and the Kings Garden.
  • Christiansborg Palace and the Round Tower.
  • Stroget, the pedestrian shopping street.

Planning Your Time

  • The center is about 10 to 15 minutes by car from the terminals, so a half day works well, but check your ship's all aboard time before you plan your day.
  • Many sights sit close together, so a private driver-guide can cover a lot in a few hours.
  • Danish weather can change quickly, so bring a light jacket even in summer.

Nearby Destinations

  • The castles of North Zealand, including Kronborg Castle in Helsingor.
  • Roskilde, known for its cathedral and Viking ship museum.
  • Copenhagen Airport (CPH) is about 45 minutes to 1 hour from the cruise terminals by private vehicle, depending on traffic.
