Ravenna Cruise Port — Venice
Private Transfers Between
|
| Factor | Private Transfer | Train | Taxi / Rideshare |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pickup | Directly at Ravenna cruise terminal | Station is not at port — requires a separate taxi first | Can pick up at port, but availability not guaranteed |
| Direct Service | Direct drive, no changes | No direct train — change at Bologna adds time and risk | Direct drive, but return taxi arranged separately |
| Luggage | Stays with you from terminal to water taxi to hotel | Lifted onto racks, carried through stations and onto vaporetti | Manageable in vehicle, but water taxi arranged separately |
| Hotel Arrival | Water taxi to hotel dock — included in price | Arrives Santa Lucia — vaporetto or water taxi on your own | Drops at Piazzale Roma — water taxi paid separately |
| Groups | Entire group in one vehicle | May be separated in busy carriages | Multiple vehicles for 5+ |
| Back-to-Ship | Full guarantee - you will not miss the ship | No protection for delays or strikes | No protection |
| Real Cost (4 pax) | Per-person pricing — often comparable once all train extras added | Cheaper per person but rises with port taxi + water taxi | Two fares plus water taxi — most expensive option |
The train reality: Reaching Ravenna's station from the cruise terminal requires a taxi. There is no direct train to Venice — a connection at Bologna adds time and risk. At Venice, you still need a water taxi. For families or groups, a private transfer with water taxi included is almost always the more practical choice.
Our Back-to-Ship Guarantee
If your transfer ever runs late due to something in our control, we'll arrange private transport to your next port at our expense. Zero risk, total peace of mind — on every booking.
Making the Most of Venice
Whether you're spending one night or several days, these are the experiences most worth planning around.
St. Mark's Square
The Basilica, the Campanile, the Doge's Palace, and the Bridge of Sighs — all concentrated here. Go early morning before the crowds arrive.
Rialto Bridge & Market
Venice's most famous bridge dates to 1591. The morning market nearby is a vivid, authentic slice of daily Venetian life that most afternoon tourists miss.
A Gondola Ride
Best taken through quiet back canals of Dorsoduro or San Polo rather than the busy Grand Canal. Book directly from any licensed gondolier stand.
Cicchetti & Local Wine
Venice's version of tapas — small bites at traditional bacari bars. The Cannaregio district has the most authentic options, away from tourist crowds.
Doge's Palace
One of Europe's most significant historic buildings. Book skip-the-line entry in advance — queues are very long in peak season.
Beyond St. Mark's
Dorsoduro, Cannaregio, and San Polo reward visitors who walk away from the main tourist routes. The bridges, campo squares, and canal views are unforgettable.
Murano & Burano Islands
Murano for glass blowing, Burano for brightly colored fishermen's houses. Both reachable by vaporetto — best for stays of two or more nights.
Evening on the Grand Canal
Take a vaporetto along the Grand Canal at dusk. The palaces lit along the water at evening are one of the most beautiful sights in Europe.
Practical note: Venice is entirely pedestrian — comfortable walking shoes are essential. Venice also charges a day-visitor entry fee on selected high-season dates. Check the current schedule at the official Venice tourism website before your travel dates.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q Which transfer do I need?
It depends on your itinerary. If your cruise starts in Ravenna and you're flying into Venice beforehand, book Venice Airport → Ravenna Port. If you're staying in a Venice hotel before the cruise, book Venice Hotel → Ravenna Port. After your cruise, choose Ravenna Port → Venice Hotel if you're continuing to a Venice stay, or Ravenna Port → Venice Airport if you're flying home. Many clients book two transfers — one for each direction.
Q Is the water taxi included in the transfer price?
Yes — for any transfer involving a Venice island hotel, the water taxi between Piazzale Roma and your hotel is included. No additional charges. Airport transfers do not require a water taxi.
Q What if my hotel doesn't have a private water taxi dock?
Most hotels without a private dock are within a short walk of a public landing stage. Share your hotel name when you book and we'll confirm the best drop-off point.
Q Is there a direct train from Ravenna to Venice?
No. There is no direct train. The standard route requires a change at Bologna. Additionally, Ravenna's train station is not at the cruise terminal. At Venice, you still need a water taxi to most hotels. For most groups, a private transfer is faster, simpler, and often more cost-effective.
Q How long is the drive?
Approximately 1.5 to 2 hours depending on traffic. Allow closer to 2 hours in July and August. We always build a buffer into the schedule.
Q What airport do you transfer to?
Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE), approximately 15 minutes from Piazzale Roma, and Treviso Airport (TSF), approximately 40 minutes. Specify your airport when booking.
Q How far in advance should I book for my flight?
Allow a minimum of 2.5 to 3 hours between your water taxi pickup (or hotel departure) and your flight departure. Provide your flight number and we'll plan the timing precisely.
Q Can I book both directions together?
Yes — many clients do. Book both at the same time and we coordinate everything. Contact us to arrange a combined booking.
Q Do you accommodate mobility limitations?
Please inform us at booking. We'll select an appropriate vehicle and confirm the most accessible water taxi arrangements. Note that Venice's historic centre involves numerous bridge steps — we're happy to advise on accessible routes and hotel locations.
Q What deposit is required?
Most bookings are secured with a low $50 initial deposit with the balance due closer to your travel date. Book early — summer availability fills quickly.

Private Ravenna to Venice Transfers for Cruise Passengers
Ravenna is one of the fastest-growing cruise ports in the northern Adriatic. Ships dock at Porto Corsini, the commercial terminal at the mouth of the Candiano Canal, approximately 15 kilometres from Ravenna's historic centre. For passengers beginning or ending their cruise here, a private transfer is the simplest and most comfortable way to connect with Venice — whether heading to a hotel on the island, flying into or out of Marco Polo Airport, or making the journey in either direction.
The drive from Ravenna to Venice takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours along the A13 and A4 autostrada. The route crosses the flat agricultural landscape of the Po Delta and the Veneto region before arriving at the Ponte della Libertà, the sole road causeway connecting Venice to the mainland. All vehicles terminate at Piazzale Roma, the western gateway to Venice's pedestrian historic centre. From there, the only way to reach most Venice hotels is by water — which is why Private Shore Trips includes a water taxi from Piazzale Roma to your hotel dock as part of every hotel transfer booking.
Four Transfer Options for Every Itinerary
Private Shore Trips offers four transfer services on this route. For passengers arriving in Venice before their cruise, we provide private transfers from Venice Marco Polo Airport to Ravenna cruise port and from Venice island hotels to Ravenna cruise port — with water taxi pickup from your hotel dock included. For passengers ending their cruise in Ravenna, we offer private transfers to Venice island hotels — with water taxi delivery to your hotel dock — and direct transfers to Venice Marco Polo Airport or Treviso Airport. All services include a professional English-speaking driver, full luggage assistance, and our Back-to-Ship Guarantee.
