About Ravenna Cruise Port (Porto Corsini)

Ravenna's port is mid-construction, so the current setup looks different from a finished terminal.

Current Setup: A Temporary Terminal Tent

  • The port is in the middle of construction, so passengers currently check in and board through a temporary tent set up on the pier, not a finished terminal building.
  • The tent sits immediately next to the ship, so the walk from check-in to the gangway is short, just steps away.
  • Expect a more functional setup than a typical cruise terminal, tented walkways and staff directing foot traffic rather than escalators and duty-free shops.

Getting To and From the Port

  • There is only one road in and out of the terminal area, Via Molo San Filippo, so all vehicle traffic, taxis, buses, and private transfers use the same route.
  • Because it is a single road, traffic can back up during peak embarkation and disembarkation windows when multiple ships are in port.
  • A private transfer avoids the uncertainty of the taxi line by having your driver pre-positioned and waiting for you at an agreed time.

Who Is Building the New Terminal

  • Royal Caribbean Group is funding and building the new permanent cruise terminal at Porto Corsini.
  • The terminal will be operated by Ravenna Civitas Cruise Port (RCCP) once complete.
  • It is a long-term infrastructure project meant to replace the current temporary setup with a proper terminal building, similar to those found at larger Italian ports.

When Does the New Terminal Open

  • The new terminal is not open yet. Construction is still underway as of the 2026 cruise season.
  • Full operation is expected before the 2027 season, though exact timing can shift as with any major construction project.
  • Until then, the temporary tent setup described above remains the standard way passengers board and disembark.

Other Transportation Options to Venice and Beyond

A private transfer is not the only way to reach Venice from Ravenna. Here is what the train, bus, and taxi look like, none of these are services we operate or book.

Train

  • A direct regional train runs from Ravenna to Venice Santa Lucia with no change of trains, covering about 70 miles (114km) in roughly 2 hours 45 minutes to 3 hours.
  • Ravenna's train station is not at the cruise terminal, so you need a taxi or bus just to reach it before your trip even starts.
  • Venice Santa Lucia station puts you inside the historic center on foot, unlike a car or taxi, which has to stop at Piazzale Roma.

Bus

  • Flixbus runs a Ravenna to Venice route, about 132 miles (212km) by road, in roughly 3 hours 15 minutes.
  • Buses depart from Ravenna's bus or train station area, not the cruise port, and drop off at Venice Mestre, Piazzale Roma, or Tronchetto depending on the specific departure.
  • Daily departures are limited, so check current times before you plan your day around one.

Taxi

  • Metered white taxis operate in Ravenna, typically based at the train station rather than waiting at the cruise pier.
  • Fares are not fixed and depend on traffic and time of day, so ask for an estimate before you get in.
  • Like any vehicle, a taxi can only take you as far as Piazzale Roma, the entry point to Venice's historic center.

A private transfer costs more than these options, but it is the only one that picks you up directly at the port on a schedule built around your ship, and for Venice hotel guests, continues by water taxi into the canals with no separate vehicle to arrange.

About Ravenna and the Surrounding Area

Ravenna's historic center sits about 9 miles (15km) from the Porto Corsini pier, roughly a 20 to 25 minute drive. The city is best known for eight Early Christian and Byzantine monuments recognized together as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996, several of them known for mosaic work that has survived largely intact since the 5th and 6th centuries.

The Eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites

  • Basilica of San Vitale, known for its mosaics of Emperor Justinian and Empress Theodora.
  • Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, known for its star patterned mosaic ceiling.
  • Basilica of Sant'Apollinare Nuovo, with long mosaic panels showing processions of martyrs.
  • Neonian Baptistery, the city's oldest surviving monument.
  • Arian Baptistery.
  • Archiepiscopal Chapel.
  • Mausoleum of Theodoric.
  • Basilica of Sant'Apollinare in Classe, located outside the city center.

A Former Imperial Capital

  • Ravenna served as the capital of the Western Roman Empire from 402 AD until the empire's fall in 476.
  • It later served as capital of the Ostrogothic Kingdom, then the Byzantine Exarchate of Italy, which is part of why its monuments carry both Roman and Byzantine influence.
  • The poet Dante Alighieri spent his final years in Ravenna and is buried there, near the Basilica of San Francesco in the city center.

Nearby Destinations

  • Venice, about 109 miles (175km) to the north, is the most common pre or post cruise destination for passengers embarking or disembarking in Ravenna.
  • Bologna, about 55 miles (89km) to the southwest, has the best airport connections for this region.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I board and disembark at the same spot?

Yes. Both use the same open-air parking lot right outside the port and the same tent next to the ship. Only the direction changes.

Where does my driver meet me?

In the parking lot right outside the port, the same spot for every transfer we run. Your driver will be holding a sign with your group name written on it, so you will spot them right away.

Which Ravenna to Venice transfer do I need?

It depends on your itinerary. If your cruise starts in Ravenna and you flew into Venice beforehand, book Venice Airport to Ravenna Port. If you are staying in a Venice hotel before the cruise, book Venice Hotel to Ravenna Port. After your cruise, choose Ravenna Port to Venice Hotel if you are continuing to a Venice stay, or Ravenna Port to Venice Airport if you are flying home. Many clients book both directions at once.

Is the water taxi included in the transfer price?

Yes, for any transfer involving a Venice island hotel, the water taxi between Piazzale Roma and your hotel is included with no additional charge. The price covers the private vehicle, all highway tolls, and the water taxi to your hotel dock or nearest landing stage. Airport transfers do not require a water taxi.

Is there a direct train from Ravenna to Venice?

Yes, a direct regional train runs between Ravenna and Venice Santa Lucia with no change of trains, but it takes close to 3 hours, compared to about 2.5 hours door to door with us. Ravenna's train station is also not at the cruise terminal, so you still need a taxi or bus just to reach it, and the same again on the Venice side to get from Santa Lucia station to your hotel with luggage. A private transfer skips both of those extra legs.

How far and how long is the drive from Ravenna to Venice?

About 109 miles (175km). The highway drive itself takes roughly 1.5 to 2 hours, crossing the Veneto region and the Ponte della Liberta causeway, the only road connection into Venice. Door to door, including pickup at the port and arrival in Venice, your private transfer takes about 2.5 hours total.

What Venice airport do you transfer to?

Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE), about 15 to 20 minutes from Piazzale Roma and served by most international and European flights. Let us know your flight details when you book.

What is the closest airport to Ravenna cruise port itself?

Forli, 22 miles (35km), but with limited flights. Bologna, 55 miles (89km), has the best connections and is our transfer route.

Is the new terminal open yet?

Not yet. Royal Caribbean Group is building it. Full operation is expected before the 2027 season.

What is the back-to-ship guarantee?

If a scheduled private transfer is delayed and causes you to miss your ship's departure, we arrange and cover transportation to your next port of call. Your tour must be scheduled to return to the ship 1.5 hours prior to ship departure for the guarantee to apply.

Is there parking at the port?

Yes, free and unguarded, about 150 spaces.
