Juneau Shore Excursion

This 4-hour Juneau shore trip allows you to create your own itinerary. After meeting your guide you discuss your interests and the places you wish to see. Usually with four hours you can include 2 or 3 stops. We have included some suggestions including; Mendenhall Glacier, Macaulay Salmon Hatchery, the Rainforest Gardens or the Alaskan Brewing Company. While your vehicle and guide are included, you are expected to pay the applicable entry fees based on your decisions.

Mendenhall Glacier

Stretch your legs on a secluded trail in the Tongass National Forest. You start your walk on a forested path where you learn about the many connections between the land and the sea. After a short distance, the canopy opens up to scenic views of the Mendenhall Glacier and Nugget Falls. Spawning salmon, arctic terns, and black bears visit this area each summer providing insights to the life cycle which is so important to a healthy ecosystem.

There will be stops along the way for your guide to provide commentary and for you to enjoy the wonderful views. Best of all, with a private group, you are given access to areas not available to mass tour groups. With driving time, this option can easily take 2.5 to 3 hours so it can usually only be combined with one other stop.

Macaulay Salmon Hatchery

Enjoy a behind the scenes VIP tour of this unique facility where you learn about the lifecycle of one of Alaska’s most precious resources. See-through fish ladders, visible holding tanks, saltwater aquariums and touch tanks allow you to see the various stages of salmon development as well as other interesting animals that call the Inside Passage home.

Rainforest Gardens

Enjoy the beautiful 50 acres of Southeast Alaska’s premier rainforest garden. In the botanical gardens you will see one-of-a-kind Flower Towers which are set within the Tongass National Forest. You will learn about this temperate rainforest’s fascinating ecosystem and animal life. In addition to a drive through the gardens, you enjoy some time in the visitor center where you see unique floral designs and hanging gardens. This garden tour is unlike any other you've taken before.

Alaskan Brewing Company

Visit Alaska’s largest and Juneau’s only brewery. Started in 1986, Alaskan Brewing Company was the first brewery in Juneau since Prohibition. Alaskan beers reflect many of the same characteristics of beers that were brewed during the gold rush era. From the historically based Alaskan Amber to alder-smoked malts and Sitka spruce tips, Alaska beers reflect Juneau’s local brewing history and innovation. During your visit you will have the opportunity to ask questions about the brewery, their process, and sample a variety of their beers. Guests must be 21 or older to sample beer.
