Juneau Shore Excursion

This private Juneau shore trip is like getting four tours in one. You learn some history on your downtown tour, then enjoy panoramic views while riding the aerial tram, followed by a walk in the timberline wilderness on top Mt Roberts. Finally, you sample products made from the bounty of the rainforest in the Alpine Tea House.

After meeting your guide at the port, you set off through Juneau's historic district where you will see the Capitol Building and Governor's Mansion while you learn tales of past and present Juneau. If you are lucky, you will enjoy a stop which allows you to photograph your cruise ship against the beautiful backdrop of Mt Roberts and Juneau (depends on your ships location).

After the short Juneau tour you board a modern gondola for a smooth ride up to an altitude of 1800 feet above the town center. You will enjoy amazing vistas as you soar over the lumbering spruce trees and jagged rock outcroppings.

Once you reach the top you had out on to the trail with your guide, where you will experience the quiet solitude of the temperate rain forest, the lushness of alpine meadows, and the splendor of mountain cirques (valleys formed by glaciers). On the gondola or during your hike you might catch site of a black bear, a bald eagle, or a whistling marmot. Your guide provides stops so they can provide explanations about the medicinal and edible uses of the flora found in the forest.

You enjoy a short stop at an Alpine Tea House where you will sample Alaskan made herbal teas, fireweed honey and other interesting products derived from the bounty of the Alaskan rainforest.

You finish the tour in the Nature Center: finishing your tea, viewing interpretive displays or choosing a unique outdoor gift.

Note: You may choose to say good-bye to your guide here and extend your stay on the mountain as your tram ticket is valid all day. Also located near the mountain tram is a free Native cultural film, a Raptor Center for a closer look at a live bald eagle and various shops.
