Ho Chi Minh City Shore Excursion - This full day shore tour explores Ho Chi Minh City's local markets as well as visiting some of the top sights such as the FITO Museum and the Reunification Hall where you learn about the fall of Saigon.

After meeting your private guide at the Saigon Port you drive into Ho Chi Minh City and your first stop is in Chinatown to visit Vietnam's first traditional medicine museum, known as FITO Museum. Here you will see an amazing collection of 3,000 items relevant to the development of traditional Vietnamese medicine, dating as far back as the Stone Age. Implements used to prepare indigenous herbs, objects commonly found in traditional pharmacies as well as ancient books and documents on traditional Vietnamese medicine can be seen in the galleries.

Next it is only a short drive to visit the Chinese influenced Cholon District which lies on the west bank of the Saigon River. You will see local pagodas such as the Thien Hau, which is dedicated to the goddess of the Sea. Your guide will lead you on a walk through the streets to explore the array of local markets. A treat for many visitors is a stop at the Binh Tay Markets which is one of the city's largest and most bustling markets.

After your morning sightseeing you will enjoy a typical Vietnamese lunch at Dong Pho Restaurant which is the name of ancient Sai Gon and is situated in the east of Hue rampart. The restaurant follows ancient structure and is well decorated with plants and flowers.

This afternoon you visit the Reunification Hall, formerly known as the Presidential Palace. It was towards this modern building that North Vietnamese resistance fighters tanks (Viet Cong) rolled on the morning of April 30, 1975 as Saigon fell. This fascinating building is filled with history which is still fresh in the minds of many.

Other sights you see are the Old Post Office and the Notre Dame Cathedral. You enjoy another walk along Antique Street (Le Cong Kieu), where genuine antiques are mixed in with genuine fakes: Aladdin oil lamps, carved wooden chests, Marelli copper fans, opium pipes, abacuses, etc. You can also find military cast-offs from the Vietnam War, and if you look hard enough, relics from the French Indochina era.

After a full day exploring Ho Chi Minh City and its local markets you return to the pier.
