Haines Shore Excursion
This Haines shore trip is designed for the photographer, either professional or amateur. Depending on your interests and weather your photography guide will select spots where you could photograph Bald Eagles, Brown Bears or an array of other wildlife and nature scenes.
The theme is flexibility, fun, and learning rather than adherence to a rigid schedule. Even a simple point-and-shoot camera or smartphone camera will work, but guests are encouraged to bring photo gear to capture the best shots.
Upon arrival in Haines, you will meet your professional photography guide. Your guide will select his or her favorite locations and provide you with ample time to set up the best shots.
Depending on the lighting and weather, different locations in the Chilkat Valley boast specific photographic highlights.
- Bald Eagle Photography: Haines is rightfully known as the bald eagle capital of the world. Hundreds of bald eagles live here year-round, and your guide knows their seasonal movements. You will likely get the chance to photograph an active eagle’s nest (or two!), eagles in flight, and even some close-up portraiture work of these birds.
- Brown Bear Photography: Haines has a growing reputation as a world-class brown bear viewing destination. Beginning in August, the Chilkoot River is teeming with pink salmon, and the bears reliably come down to the river to feed. There are also other lesser-known locations, in and around Haines, where brown bear can be seen and photographed.
- Other Wildlife Photography: Depending on the season, humpback whales, Stellar’s sea lions, moose, Dall sheep, mountain goats, beaver, and harbor seals can all be photographed from Haines.
- Landscape/Nature Photography: The pristine beauty of Haines is unsurpassed. Mountain vistas, glaciers, rivers, waterfalls, abundant wildflowers, seascapes...whatever your interest, your guide can take you where you need to go to get a photographic experience that will exceed your expectations.
A boxed lunch is included so you may eat when you want to, and focus on getting the shots you desire.
Following your Haines excursion, you will return to your cruise ship.
