Dubrovnik Shore Excursion
This Dubrovnik day trip allows you to visit Montenegro including a drive around Kotor Bay, walking tours in Perast and Kotor, and free time to enjoy lunch / shop / self-exploration.
Your driver will meet you at the cruise pier or your hotel in Dubrovnik and then you start the drive south to Montenegro. When you first get there you enjoy a scenic around the fjords which make up Kotor Bay.
After meeting your local guide in Kotor you enjoy a walking tour through the maze of medieval old town, its bustling market and among beautiful Renaissance buildings. The well preserved fortified walls of Kotor are nearly 3 miles long and it is considered one of the world's historic values.
Your tour includes a visit to the Cathedral of St. Tryphon which was built in 1166 on the remains of a former 9th century temple. You will see the remains from 14th century frescoes as well as the valuable treasury with both local and Venetian golden works dating from the 14th to the 20th centuries.
After a thorough walking tour of Kotor you have free time for enjoy lunch in a local cafe, do some shopping or self-exploration. Some people decide to take a walk on the city walls or a short boat trip on the bay.
Before returning to Dubrovnik you visit the charming village of Perast. This small town is a wonderful example of baroque architecture. While you are in Perast you have a short walk among buildings and villas which were built during the city's prosperous years of the 17th and 18th centuries.
There were 14 churches built during that period, among them is the unfinished parish church of St Nicholas, a Venetian-Romanesque variation of baroque style. Its bell tower is 179 feet high and has an inscription which proudly reads that the Turkish threat ended after the Venetians conquered Herceg Novi and Risan. Although it is open to the sky, the great apse of the main altar makes a significant contribution to the coastline of Perast.
Later this afternoon you say goodbye to your local guide and return to Dubrovnik.
