This Bangkok shore excursion visits the Bang Pa In Summer Palace, the Wat Niwet Thammaprawat (gothic inspired temple) and the World Heritage Site of Ancient Ayutthaya. This is an excellent option for those who have been to Bangkok before and would like to explore ancient history.
After meeting your guide at the pier you drive north in the direction of Ayutthaya. Your first stop is at Bang Pa In to see the Summer Palace built by King Rama IV and the contrasting palace buildings and surrounding temples inspired by European, Chinese and Thai designs. The town was built in the 1630's by King Prasat Thong of Ayutthaya as a second home for his family members in the summer months.
Next you visit the Wat Niwet Thammaprawat, a gothic inspired temple located on the banks of the Chao Phraya River across from the Summer Palace.
Next you drive a little further north until you reach Ayutthaya and enjoy a stop for lunch (meal included but drinks are chosen and paid for on the spot).
This afternoon is the highlight of the tour. You visit the Ancient City of Ayutthaya where the temples and ruins of this great city have been declared a World Heritage Site. Ayutthaya was founded in 1350 and became the second Siamese Capital after Sukhothai. The city was destroyed by the Burmese in the 18th century. However, its ruins of reliquary towers and gigantic monasteries, give visitors an good idea of the cities grand past.
