    TOUR DESCRIPTION

    Bangkok (Klong Toey) Shore Excursion

This full day Bangkok tour visits the top sites including Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn), Grand Palace, Wat Po (Reclining Buddha) and Wat Benjamabophit (Marble Temple). You also enjoy a canal cruise on a long-tail boat and a typical Thai lunch.

After meeting your guide at your cruise ship, you drive to a pier located on the Chao Phraya River. Once you are here you will board a long-tail boat for a cruise through the Thonburi klongs (canals). The city is often referred to as the "Venice of the East" and you will understand why as you pass wooden family homes which sit on stilts, floating kitchens, traders offering goods on their boats and colonial mansions. Also seen are temples including Wat Arun which is your first stop.

Wat Arun or the Temple of Dawn has a spire which is about 240 feet high and is one of the icons of Bangkok. There is plenty of time for photos of this landmarks multicolored porcelain studded towers.

Your next stop is the Grand Palace which is without a doubt a must see site when coming to this city. In fact it is one of the most visited sites in all of Thailand. The palace was the official home to the Kings of Siam (now Thailand) from 1782 until 1925. The current king lives in another palace, however, the Grand Palace is still used for several official royal functions each year.

The palace complex sits on the banks of the Chao Phraya River and is made up of several buildings, halls and pavilions set around large lawns, gardens and courtyards. Your visit includes the magnificent throne halls and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. This temple (or wat) is considered the most sacred of all Buddhist Temples in Thailand.

Next you visit Wat Po which is adjecent to the Grand Palace and is the oldest temple in Bangkok. This temple is the home to the awe inspiring reclining Buddha which is 160 feet long. This was also the first school of traditional medicine in Thailand and the founding place of Thai massage. Many people consider this the first University of Thailand.

After a morning filled with these gems, you stop for lunch at the delightful Supatra River House which overlooks the Chao Phraya River. The meal includes typical Thai dishes such as Spring Rolls, Spicy Chicken Clear Soup, Chicken Green Curry, Stir-Fried Mixed Vegetables with Oyster Sauce, and more. (Lunch is included, however drinks are chosen separately and paid for on the spot.)

The tour ends with a visit to the Marble Temple or Wat Benjamabophit which features a fascinating fusion of Thai and European architectural styles. This is one of Bangkok's most beautiful temples and showcases Bangkok's ornate style of high gables, stepped-out roofs and elaborate finials.

At the end of your time in central Bangkok, you are brought back to your cruise ship.
