TOUR DESCRIPTION

Dubrovnik Shore Excursion

This short tour introduces you to Dubrovnik, known as the Pearl of the Adriatic. You enjoy a short stop at a viewpoint where you can take dramatic photos of Dubrovnik and its fortified walls, followed by a walking tour of the old town, including the Cathedral and Franciscan Monastery.

Your private guide will meet you at the pier to begin your exploration. Your first stop will be a viewpoint where you can take photos of the city and its walls. Next you drive to the city's Pile Gate where the statue of the city's patron St. Blaise welcomes you. From here you began to explore Dubrovnik on foot walking along the city's main promenade which is paved with marble and lined with store fronts and cafes.

On your tour you will visit the Franciscan monastery which was built in the Romanesque-Gothic style and considered to be an architectural masterpiece. Inside the monastery you visit a pharmacy which opened its doors in 1317, making it the oldest operating pharmacy in all of Europe.

Next you visit the baroque Cathedral and its Treasury. The current cathedral was finished in 1671 to replace a Romanesque Cathedral which was destroyed in the Great Earthquake of 1667. The main altar features a painting of The Assumption by Titian (1552). The Cathedral Treasury is known for its collection of 138 reliquaries, most of which are traditionally carried in procession around the city on the feast of St. Blaise (February 3rd).

At the end of the tour you are returned to the pier.

Jewish Heritage: If you would prefer to visit Dubrovnik's synagogue instead of the Cathedral, please let us know at the time of reservation so we can make the arrangements.

Mobility: Folding wheelchair OK, some sites may be inaccessible (advance notice required)
