TOUR DESCRIPTION

Oslo Shore Excursion

This Oslo walking tour introduces you to Norway's capital city. You will see some of the cities main sites including the Akershus Fortress, the Parliament Building, the National Theater and Oslo City Hall. You enjoy walking along main boulevards including through the historical and modern areas of the city. After the tour you can enjoy free time and easily walk back to the pier on your own.

After meeting your guide you start with a short visit to the the famous Akershus Fortress. This medieval castle was built, on the waterfront, starting in 1290 to guard the city of Oslo from evasions by the Swedish. it has been an Oslo landmark ever since, Over time it also served as a royal residence, a prison and a military outpost. Norwegian Royalty is buried in the Royal Mausoleum inside the castle.

Next you visit the historic center of Oslo which was formed at the end of the 19th century. The main buildings of not only the city but also the country are concentrated here - the Parliament, the National Theater, the University, the Royal Palace, and others. Norway is a country in which, along with the parliament, there is also a monarchy. You will learn how these two branches of government exist in a modern country. A walk along the main street of the city will provide an opportunity to see the daily life of the inhabitants of the capital of Norway.

The center of Oslo is not only a cultural, commercial, and tourist destination, but also an administrative place. Oslo City Hall is a building where both city problems are solved and various ceremonies are held. The main one is the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony, which takes place here every year in December. If the Town Hall is open on the day of your arrival, you will have the opportunity to visit the very hall where this ceremony is held.

The town hall is interesting not only inside, but also outside. Particularly noteworthy are the wooden carved panels with plots telling about the Scandinavian Gods, whose names may be familiar to you from various books, as well as popular TV shows.

At the end of the tour you can choose to enjoy free time and then easily walk back to the pier on your own.
