This Lisbon shore excursion will take you on a journey to the Royal Village of Sintra and the old fishing village of Cascais which is now a beautiful resort town. A highlight is a visit to the National Palace of Sintra.
After meeting your guide you depart Lisbon by driving through the Belem area which is famous for its landmarks dedicated to the marine discoverers. Situated on the bank of the river Tagus, you will see the Monument of the Discoveries and the famous Belem Tower.
When arriving in Sintra, you will be pleasantly surprised by this preserved old world village nestled at the top of a tree covered hill. This town was chosen as one of the favorite living quarters of the British. While you are here you visit the National Palace, which was a Royal Residence for almost 800 years and today is the only remaining royal palace in Portugal.
Next you drive south to Cascais, where you will be able to stroll through this charming village and have ample opportunity to soak up the colorful setting or shop around. This once sleepy fishing village has became a favorite of the wealthy as a holiday resort. The astonishing villas and manicured lawns built during the late 19th century speak volumes about the importance of those residents.
When leaving Cascais you drive the scenic coast line road known as Avenida Marginal, which takes you back into the heart of the capital city of Lisbon.
