This Lisbon shore trip visits the UNESCO World Heritage city of Evora. You'll enjoy an exploration of the city center which dates back to Roman times and was a popular residence of Portuguese Kings.
After meeting your guide you immediately depart inland for Evora, which rose to prominence under the Romans and flourished throughout the Middle Ages as a center of learning and the arts. Squeezed between Roman, medieval and 17th century walls, the city's web of streets is an architectural and cultural cornucopia of styles. Many of its whitewashed houses are decorated with wrought iron balconies dating from the 16th through 18th centuries. Many of the monuments in the city were considered so beautiful that they had an influence even on Portuguese architecture in Brazil.
Evora's dedication to faith is reflected in the number and variety of its churches. In all there are over 20 churches and monasteries. Your tour includes a visit to the Romanesque Gothic Cathedral and the macabre Chapel of Bones. Other sites seen include the University, the Roman Temple of Diana, the Church of San Francisco and the Aqueduct of Silver Water.
While you are in Evora you will have free time to enjoy lunch at a traditional Portuguese restaurants.
At the end of the tour you return to Lisbon crossing over the 25th of April bridge.
