Venice, Italy -This half day tour provides the highlights of Padua including the most important Scrovegni Chapel, painted by Giotto. After meeting your licensed guide at the pier in Venice, you immediately depart for Padua, a University town of about 200,000 people, and according to records, one of the oldest Universities in the world.

During your city tour, you see The 13th century Basilica of Saint Anthony, locally known as "Il Santo". The bones of the saint rest in one of the chapels which is richly ornamented with carved marble. You will be in awe at The Palazzo della Ragione which is known for having the largest roof unsupported by columns in Europe. The great hall is almost 270 feet long and 90 feet wide and covered in frescos. Beneath is a local market which has been taking place for over 1000 years.

In addition to seeing many of the University buildings you also see several of Padua's famous squares (piazza) where markets often take place. At the end of the tour, you visit Padua's most famous sight, the Scrovegni Chapel.

The Scrovegni Chapel was painted by Giotto between 1303 and 1305, is one of the greatest masterpieces of Europe. The frescos covering the walls tell the story of the Virgin Mary and Christ. Due to recent renovations, your visit includes spending 15 minutes prior to entrance in a climate-controlled, air locked vault, used to stabilize the temperature between the outside world and the inside of the chapel.

Special Note: The maximum number of people allowed in the chapel at one time is 24 so larger groups would be divided into smaller groups for the visit.
