TOUR DESCRIPTION

Skagway Shore Excursion

This Skagway shore trip is another family favorite. In addition to exploring the beautiful Emerald Lake, you visit a dog mushing camp to visit the puppies and enjoy a dog cart ride, before a train ride on the White Pass Yukon Railway.

After meeting your driver guide you start the scenic drive to Emerald Lake, paralleling the route that many gold seekers once traveled on their way to fortune. View waterfalls, glaciers, sparkling lakes, rushing rivers, alpine mountain views and forest scenery along the way. Wildlife are often spotted on this route, so keep your eyes open for bears, moose, caribou, goats and sheep. Your driver guide will stop anytime there is a wildlife sighting.

You will stop at Michelle Phillip’s “Tutshi Dog Mushing Camp” where you will meet Michelle and her team of dogs. Michelle races in the Iditarod each spring, mushing 16 of her 60 dogs from Anchorage to Nome in the famous 1,000 mile race. Pet the puppies and enjoy a 15 minute dog cart ride on a wilderness trail. She will share stories of life on the trail during a 10 minute talk after your ride.

Enjoy lunch (not included) before heading to Fraser, BC where you will board the train for your return journey to Skagway.

Your tour concludes with a 28 mile train ride from Fraser to Skagway aboard the Scenic Railway of the World, The White Pass Yukon Railway. Relax in vintage passenger coaches as you retrace the original route to the White Pass Summit, passing Bridal Veil Falls, Inspiration Point, and Dead Horse Gulch. Enjoy the breathtaking panorama of mountains, glaciers, gorges, waterfalls, tunnels, trestles, and historic sites all from your seat on the train. You will also see the original Klondike Trail of 1898 worn into the rocks, a tribute to those who traveled this way in search of gold and fortune.
