TOUR DESCRIPTION

Warnemunde Shore Trip

Please Note this is a Shared Tour. You will love this tour to Berlin, which includes the Top 10 sites of this world-famous capitol. A German snack & Beer are included.

After being welcomed at the port by your English-speaking Escort you will be whisked off to Berlin in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle. The vehicle will range in size from a minivan to a full size coach, based on the number of participants.

During the drive to Berlin you receive general information and the day’s itinerary, while listening to stories from behind the “Iron Curtain” and former East German times, before your personal, expert Berlin Guide will join your group in Berlin and showcase this iconic city. To have your batteries recharged, a traditional Berliner snack, a “Curry-Wurst” or “Bratwurst” and some German beer, will be included during lunchtime at a typical “Kiosk” (casual stand-up restaurant). Some time at leisure will also be included to buy a local souvenir.

Imagine soaking in the Top 10 sites of this exciting metropolis in such a short space. It’s easy, and efficient as you will be looked after from the beginning to the end.

Your guide will give you opportunities to get off the coach from time to time, to touch and feel this vibrant city, as you stop to marvel at iconic sites that ooze with history.

A “selfie” in front of the famous Brandenburg Gate is a must, before crossing over to Germany’s seat of Parliament, the Reichstag, which is crowned by a glass cupola, designed by the famous architect Sir Norman Foster.

From here take a short walk to the Holocaust Memorial to pay respect to the millions of murdered Jews of Europe as you walk through 1000’s of concrete Stelae which resemble a cemetery. Built on the former death strip, close to Hitler’s bunker and Berlin’s foreign embassies, you can observe how Germany acknowledges its past while continuing to move forward.

Brush up on your cultural knowledge as your guide shows you Charlottenburg Palace, a grand and splendid example of baroque architecture from Prussian times, before stopping for a photo at a UNESCO listed site, Museum Island, including the world famous Pergamon Museum and the magnificent Berlin Cathedral. Here your guide will also point out bullet-riddled walls from street fighting that took place during WWII, something that very few tourists get to see! After WWII and mainly after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Gendarmenmarket Square was lovingly restored and baptized by Berliners as the most beautiful square in Germany. Take a panorama photo as you soak up this bold (square) ensemble made up of the German and the French Cathedral as well as the Concert Hall.

You will not get closer to Cold War History than making a stop at Checkpoint Charlie, the most well-known Allied Checkpoint and border crossing. A short walk from here you can lay hands on the infamous Berlin Wall that separated the two Berlins, to get a true sense of how life must have been back then.

Another absolute “must see” is the Topography of Terror Open Air Exhibition which is an ensemble of basement ruins on the former grounds of the SS and Gestapo’s own “house prison” and headquarters, during the Nazi regime from 1933 to 1945, the principal instruments of repression and interrogation during this era.

Situated in the heart of former East Berlin, is the ever watchful Berlin TV Tower. The tallest building in Germany at 368 meters was built as a status symbol by the East Germans and today is affectionately known as the “toothpick” or “The Pope’s Revenge” – your expert guide will let you in on the know.

At the end of the day you are brought back to the pier in Warnemunde / Rostock.
