Oslo, Norway - This six hour tour introduces the visitor to the Cultural Arts in Oslo. Your tour includes visits to the Munch Museum, the National Gallery, the New Opera House and also the Akershus Fortress.
After meeting your guide at the pier you start with a short visit to the the famous Akershus Fortress. This castle was built starting in 1290 to guard the city of Oslo from evasions by the Swedish. Over time it also served as a prison and military outpost. Also, Norwegian Royalty is buried in the Royal Mausoleum inside the castle.
Next you visit the Munch Museum. Edvard Munch's art is the most significant Norwegian contribution to the history of art, and he is the only Norwegian artist who has exercised a decisive influence on European art trends, above all as a pioneer of Expressionism in Germany and the Nordic countries. When Munch died in January 1944, it transpired that he had unconditionally bequeathed all his remaining works to the City of Oslo. A true treat for visitors today.
You continue your art exploration at the National Gallery, which has Norway's largest collection of Norwegian, Nordic and international art from the beginning of the 19th century up until today. The main exhibition displays Norwegian and international paintings and sculptures from the 19th and 20th centuries.
After your museum visits you will say goodbye to your city guide. You will have free time for lunch on your own in the city center.
After your lunch break your driver takes you to the New Opera House where you meet a guide trained specifically for your tour of this stunning place.
Oslo's new opera house opened on 12 April, 2008 and is now the home of the Norwegian Opera and Ballet, Norway's biggest culture and stage institution.
The new opera house is one of the world's most spectacular opera houses, with a fabulous location by the seaside. The new opera house presents a rich and varied program from three stages: The main theater (1369 seats), Scene 2 (400 seats) and the Rehearsal theatre (200 seats).
After this cultural exploration your driver brings you back to the pier.
