Nynäshamn , Sweden -This eight hour tour includes Scandinavia's most visited museum, the Vasa. Also included is the famous Stockholm City Hall and free time in the Old Town.
After meeting your driver and guide at the pier, you drive immediately to the beautiful City Hall. The building was built in 1923 and today its high spire topped with three golden crowns has become the symbol of Stockholm. The Blue Hall is the location where the world famous Nobel Prize banquet takes place each year, followed by a ball in the Golden Hall. You will be amazed by the mosaics and murals which line the interior.
Following the City Hall tour you drive to Fjällgatan for a panoramic photo stop. This area sits on a cliff where you enjoy well preserved wooden buildings dating from the 1700s and also fantastic views of Stockholm. Get your cameras ready.
Following this beautiful drive you visit the Old Town, known as Gamla Stan. The city of Stockholm is made up of 14 islands and peninsulas which are connected by bridges. The Old Town is encompasses three of these islands. You will take a walking tour where you see the Royal Palace and Cathedral (Stockholm's Oldest Building) plus enjoy the narrow cobbled streets that are lined with antique shops and boutiques. You also have free time for lunch on your own, or if you wish, for shopping.
Later you drive to the island of Djurgården, or "Royal Game Park". The island is part of the National Park system and is the favorite recreation area for both locals and tourists. Located on the island is the Vasa Museum, which is the most visited museum in Scandinavia.
The impressive warship Vasa sank on her maiden voyage in 1628 but it was salvaged 333 years later in 1961. She has since been restored and can now be seen with her complete rigging at the Vasa Museum. This ship is the only remaining, intact 17th century ship in the world.
After visiting the Vasa, your driver will bring you back to the pier at Nynäshamn.
