Limassol, Cyprus- This full day tour visits the top archeological sites on the island of Cyprus including the Rock of Aphrodite, Palaiopaphos, the Paphos Mosaics and the Tombs of the Kings.

After meeting your guide at the pier you drive through the lemon, orange and grapefruit groves of the Fasouri Plantations en route to the Rock of Aphrodite. This beautiful scenic spot is a popular stop for its breathtaking views of the sea, and more famously the birth place of Aphrodite. Legend has it that this is the Rock from which Aphrodite (goddess of love, beauty and fertility) mythically arose from the foaming sea.  In Roman times, Aphrodite, was widely referred to her as Venus.

Next you depart for Palaiopaphos or Old Paphos, which was a celebrated pilgrimage center in the ancient Greek world. The ancient city was built by the Arcadian King Agapenor, who stopped here on his way back from Troy. The first settlement was in 1500 B.C. and it grew into an important city which eventually became the focus of a Persian attack in 498 B.C., when the Paphians were defeated. The site was known as a sanctuary of Aphrodite. Legend says that after emerging from the sea near the famous rock, she was brought here and a temple was built in her name.

In Greco-Roman times Paphos was the capital of the island. Today is is a World Heritage Site and most famous for the remains of the Roman Governor's palace which includes an extensive amount of fine mosaics dating from the 3rd to 5th centuries AD.

Next is free time for lunch. If you prefer, we can arrange a typical Cypriot lunch. You will enjoy a variety of small dishes called mezes, which are like appetizers. These are a variety of items such as local cheeses, breads, olives, salads and items such as grilled fish. The meal is served with wine.

Later this afternoon you visit The Tombs of the Kings, which are also a listed World Heritage Site. These large necropolis lie near harbor of Paphos and date back to the 4th century BC and are carved from solid rock. The underground tombs are believed to be the the burial sites of ancient Paphos' aristocrats and high officials. Despite the name, no kings were ever buried here.

After a full day, you are returned to the pier in Limassol
