Cadiz, Spain- This 8 hour tour visits Seville (or Sevilla), the capital of the Andalucia region. Seville is the fourth largest city in Spain, and it is a pleasure to tour because many of the main sites are located near each other and easily reached on foot. You will find many small streets, shaded lanes, hidden plazas and quaint neighborhoods. Your tour leader will meet you at the pier in Cadiz and you'll enjoy a relaxing trip through the Spanish countryside until you reach Seville.
Upon arrival, a local guide will join you to explain the most important monuments and the lifestyle of the residents. You'll start with a visit to the Alcazar which is the oldest palace in Europe. In the past this was the primary home for Spain's kings and queens. Today, the current king stays here only when visiting Seville. Built with the help of the Moors you'll marvel at the variety of tiles, ornamental arches, carved wooden ceilings as well as the geometric designs in the wonderful gardens.
Next you'll visit the largest Cathedral in Spain. It is also the third largest (by square footage) in the world. A Gothic cathedral, it was built over two hundred years time on the site of a former mosque. Inside you will admire a large collection of religious jewelry, paintings and sculptures, as well as the opulent tomb of Christopher Columbus. Next you will have the chance to explore the Giralda if you wish. This bell tower was once a portion of a minaret on a former mosque from 1184.
You'll continue your tour walking through the Santa Cruz Quarter, one of the most picturesque neighborhoods in Seville. It was formerly the Jewish quarter with narrow winding cobbled streets and small plazas surrounded by whitewashed houses with flower boxes and balconies.
You'll have two hours of free time for lunch on your own and a chance to purchase souvenirs. After the morning of walking, you'll enjoy an afternoon panoramic driving tour of Seville. Some of the top sights you will admire include pavilions from the Universal Exhibition of 1992, the famous Torre del Oro (Tower of Gold), San Telmo Palace, Maria Luisa Park, Plaza de España and Plaza de America. After your panoramic tour you'll return to Cadiz and your pier in the early evening.
