TOUR DESCRIPTION

Ashdod Shore Excursion

This Ashdod day trip goes to the lowest place on earth, the Dead Sea. While you are here you visit the famous fortress of Masada before visiting the Ahava Factory and having a chance to swim in the Dead Sea.

After meeting your guide at the pier in Ashdod, you depart for the Jordan Valley, driving through the Judean Desert, until you reach the lowest place on Earth, The Dead Sea.

Your first stop is Masada. This famous Fortress was built by King Herod some 2000 years ago on the top of a very large rock plateau. You take cable cars from the valley floor to the top of the rock formation where you tour the remains of the fortress and palaces. It is at this place where the last heroic battle of the Jewish rabbis, the Zealots and the Romans took place. The plateaus cliffs range from 300 to 1300 feet high and from the site are views of the Dead Sea.

Free time for lunch (meal not included) is provided during the tour.

Next you continue to the Ahava Factory where minerals from the Dead Sea are made into spa products. The Dead Sea is actually a large saltwater lake. The salt content is 33% so no plants or animals can live in the lake, therefore the name Dead Sea. The salt content is such that you can lay on the surface of the water without even trying to float. The high salt content makes you buoyant.

Time permitting, you will have a chance to swim and put the Dead Sea minerals and mud on your body.

Later this afternoon you return to the pier in Ashdod.
