Salalah Shore Excursion - This shore trip visit an oasis in the desert known as the Ayn Razat Spring. You also have short stops at important locations in the Dhofar region such as the fishing village of Taqah, the archaeological site at Sumhumram, the coastal town of Mirbat and a local market.

After meeting your guide at the pier in Salalah, your first stop is the Ayn Razat Spring. Located at the foot of the Qara Mountains this oasis of water is the most important source of water for Salalah. The beauty of the natural springs, rich plants and colorful flowers in this desert setting is wonderful.

Next is a photo stop at the fishing village of Taqah. The picturesque village is a coastal town in the Dhofar region. Proceed on to Sumhuram, the most important pre-Islamic settlement in the Dhofar region. You will stop to inspect the archaeological ruins of the old frankincense port and its storage areas.

Then you enjoy a stop in Mirbat, which is admired for its beautiful, old Dhofari-style houses, highly evocative of a bygone era. It is also the place of the 1972 Battle of Mirbat between Communist guerrillas and the Armed forces of the Sultan of Oman.

Returning to the city, you enjoy a photo stop at the majestic Al Hosn Palace, summer residence of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos. Then you continue on to the vibrant Frankincense Souq (Market) in the old part of Salalah. Enjoy the fragrance of frankincense and sandalwood as you wander the maze of narrow lanes. In local markets it is expected that you bargain for the best price.

After exploring the delightful wonders of the Souq, you will return to the ship.
