TOUR DESCRIPTION

Private Berlin Tour

This private Berlin tour is for those who are interested in learning about Berlin's WWII history including the locations where many historical events took place. Your guide is a local expert regarding the Third Reich, the Holocaust and WWII.

After meeting your guide at your hotel you start your Berlin tour at the Reichstag building, one of the key places to understand the Nazi's rise to power. The impressive 19th century building stands at the beginning and the end of the Third Reich. Here, a fire in 1933 was allegedly started by a communist and this became a stepping stone for Hitlers seizure of absolute power in Germany. Twelve years later the Red Army's capture of Reichstag marked the apocalyptic end of the Battle of Berlin, which ended World War II in continental Europe.

Next you visit the nearby Soviet War Memorial, a grave monument built in 1945 for the many soldiers who lost their lives capturing Berlin and the Reichstag. From here you can still see the former East-West-Axis, a broad boulevard which was an essential part of Hitler's and Albert Speer's megalomaniac plan to turn Berlin into a World Capital which would have been named Germania.

From Brandenburg Gate you walk to the somber Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe. Only a stone's throw away you'll discover the site, where Hitler's bunker was located.

Later you take a trip through the former Nazi government quarter where your guide will deepen your insights into the darkest period of German history. See the propaganda ministry of Goebbels, G̦ring's ministry of aviation and visit the leftovers of one of the most feared addresses of the Third Reich: the headquarter of the Gestapo and SS.

Next you pass by one of the most iconic places of the Cold War, Checkpoint Charlie, and head to lovely Gendarmenmarkt with its beautiful twin churches. In the nearby massive building of the former Imperial Bank the Germans kept stolen gold from their raided enemies of World War II. It is in this square where on the 10th of May 1933 radicalized students of the Berlin University burnt 20,000 books, which they had branded as of Non-German spirit.

Avid History Buffs - If you are interested in digging deeper and learning even more about Berlin during WWII then reserve this Berlin tour on two days (or both morning and afternoon on the same day). We will make certain that you have the same guide so as to not repeat information or sites.

Other sites of interest include the Topography of Terror and the neighborhood of Prenzlauer Berg, where the Russians fought their way into the city. You can see the remains of a former flak-tower and have a closer look at the most-impressive War Memorial at Treptower Park. Other possibilities include the Russian-German War Museum and the largest Soviet (outside of Russia) war cemetery.

We are happy to provide a discount for reserving two or more Berlin tours, just ask for a coupon code before making your reservation.
