TOUR DESCRIPTION

Prague City Tour

The focus of this Prague tour is the Prague Castle and the Strahov Monastery. Included in the castle you visit St. Vitus Cathedral, St. Georges Basilica and the famous Golden Lane. You also explore the nearby Strahov Monastery with its impressive library.

Your guide will meet you at your hotel and you start by driving to the Strahov Monastery located high above Prague and founded in 1149. Your guide will escort you through the church of the Assumption, the Strahov picture gallery, and the library with its exquisite collection of medieval illuminated manuscripts, maps and globes. Very nearby you see vineyards on the hillside with stunning views over the city.

Then you continue to the Prague Castle which begun in the 9th century. It is a monumental complex of fortifications representing most important architectural periods, with three courtyards and covering over 111 acres. You see the famous guards which stand at its entrance, and then visit the interior of St. Vitus Cathedral which not only holds religious services but was the site where the coronations of Czech kings and queens took place.

After visiting the cathedral you continue through the complexes courtyards passing the residence of the President of the Czech Republic, St. Georges Basilica and the Daliborka Tower. Then you enter the Golden Lane, this small street is the most charming in the castle complex. It is ironic because originally the tiny houses here were the residences of the royal servants. Today the houses are filled with local craftsmen making and selling their wares.

At the end of the Golden Lane you enjoy panoramic views of the historical city center and its many spires. Then you walk down the romantic 121 stone steps of the Castle Stairs to arrive at the Little Town (known as Lesser Town) and the Church of St. Michael where young Mozart played the organ. Finally your tour will end at the Charles Bridge, crowded with visitors and locals alike, it is a beautiful and vibrant ending to this fascinating tour.

You end your tour in the Lesser Town so you can further explore, shop or enjoy a beer and meal.
