Nha Trang was one of the capitals of the former Cham Kingdom prior to the arrival of the Kinh Vietnamese. It was started as a small fishing village named Xom Bau but as more people more people migrated to the area it was named Nha Trang. Today there are about 400,000 people in the area and they live mainly on fishing, farming and tourism.
